With three days of wind forecast and sunshine I was sure what to do today with a midday high and my mates not turning up until late afternoon. So after breakfast at The Dip with Mag I decided with the tide nearly high and the sea getting lumpy to take the longboard up the River Deben mainly to see if you could sail a shortboard up river from Bawdsey beach. It was abit of a nightmare getting in the river mouth but once past Felixstowe Sailing Club the river flattened off :) The wind was very gusty in this direction :( but as the Bawdsey straight was not windy enough for fast reaching I decided to continue right up to Woodbridge again :) This time I sailed nearly to Wilford bridge but turned back as the tide turned as the river is narrow here and I did'nt want to run out of water !!! I stopped for snacks a couple of times and on passing Ramsholt the wind seemed to fill in and I beat to Bawdsey beach, rested and then reached the one and a half miles back to Ramsholt bend !!! It was great to blast along in the sunshine but again the wind was still up and down and abit square for really fast times :( As the wind is suppoed to be going nne the next two days :( it might be worh having another go ??? I was concerned that with the wind getting stronger and I was going to struggle to get back but in the end I just went for it.I met Peter Cutts heading for Felixstowe's 'speedstrip' by the shingle bank with 5.8 !!! I made it back to The Dip after over 4 hours on the water and several of my mate were enjoying the condition with 5/6m sails :) I stayed for a chat and to take some pics and did'nt get home until nearly 8 - a good day :)
